Are you an enthusiastic, self-motivated nurse, with excellent interpersonal and organisation skills, and a keen interest in research?

We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our team of research nurses and clinical research practitioners at Hereford County Hospital, where we support the delivery of high-quality NIHR portfolio and commercial research.

Main duties of the job

To promote clinical trials at Hereford, acting as a resource for the department regarding the current clinical trial portfolio and future clinical trials. To support patients involved in trials including assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating research nursing care.

Ensuring clinical trials have approvals to proceed, collecting data, interviewing and monitoring patients and data entry. Supervise and teach patients, carers, and junior members of staff.

Education & Qualifications


  • Registered General Nurse
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development


  • ICH GCP Training
  • Advanced communication training
  • Teaching/assessing qualification such as ENB 998

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities


  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and judgement skills
  • IT skills
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst aware of own learning
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and engage a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning and organisational skills for a range of complex activities
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the differing demands of research projects


  • Able to perform venepuncture
  • Knowledge of clinical trials, including: NIHR, ICH-GCP, consent process, data protection, audit and inspection



  • Experience of teaching within clinical areas


  • Experience in clinical research as a Band 5 or equivalent
  • Experience of implementing change
