An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 7 Advanced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist with significant interest and experience in neonates and paediatrics to join our dedicated paediatric and neonatal SLT team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will provide specialist clinical expertise and advice on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of neonates and babies with dysphagia and support early communication and neurodevelopmental care. Additionally, the role includes covering the children's ward and children's assessment unit.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team to inform their decision making and to provide advice and guidance to carers, non-clinical staff or members of other professions, who may be influenced by this and to maintain professional relationships with relevant others working as part of the wider team.

As part of the leadership team, the post holder must be flexible and dynamic and have a positive approach to enhancing service delivery and implementing NHS Frameworks and Quality Guidelines.

Main duties of the job

We offer clinical supervision, staff support, professional development opportunities within a supportive working environment. Excellent training facilities are available within the Trust. Barnsley is located within easy access to the major cities of Sheffield and Leeds, and also benefits from bordering on the scenic Yorkshire Dales and Peak District National Park.

To provide a highly specialised service for neonates, supporting the feeding journey and early communication, as well as addressing dysphagia and swallowing difficulties in paediatrics.

To develop, provide and participate in the training and support of other professionals working with this client group.

To oversee the clinical provision of input to babies and children with dysphagia and to provide assessment and advice to the client group, their carers and other professionals.

  • Highly developed Substantial specialist experience of a range of clinical protocols in paediatric dysphagia including neonates, infants and children
  • Proven clinical competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management of children with dysphagia including neonates, infants and children
  • Experience co-ordinating the work of others
  • Substantial experience in developing, writing, delivering and evaluating training to others including groups
  • Substantial Knowledge of contemporary issues in the Health, Education and Social Care Community relevant to the client group.
  • To demonstrate substantial and comprehensive skills in the field of paediatric dysphagia, neonates and young children, including the provision of specialist programmes of intervention
  • Substantial knowledge of the functions of related professions with this client group.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapy, or equivalent.
  • RCSLT Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia


Desirable

  • Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Dysphagia


Experience

Essential

  • Proven relevant continuous professional development in paediatric dysphagia, including neonates
