YOU have an exciting opportunity to lead a new service delivering healthcare services to a small group of men within the Immigration estate.

The Swinderby Residential Short-Term Holding Facility will hold up to 39 adult men for a period of up to 5 days.

The service provision will be 7 days a week 24 hours a day although the Service Manager role operates 9-5 Monday to Friday.

You will work in partnership with the Home Office, NHSE/I and contracted providers to achieve high quality outcomes for the service user group. We aim to provide healthcare to those detained that is equivalent to those in the community.

As the Service Manager you will provide Managerial and Clinical leadership to the Integrated Healthcare team to ensure delivery of high-quality care to patients with a range of healthcare needs.

Main duties of the job

Leading a small team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients, who are often not in receipt of essential healthcare services in the community - for a variety of reasons.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and smooth running of the Healthcare Service.

As a Registered Healthcare Professional you have the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.

Whilst in our care, you will seek to empower patients to become more aware of their own healthcare needs and offer support and treatment interventions as required.

You will work closely with Home Office and Detention Officer colleagues to provide a high standard of safe and patient centred Healthcare Services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide leadership to the healthcare team, empowering the team to perform with high levels of motivation and commitment

To deliver a comprehensive integrated health service, ensuring assessment and planning appropriate courses of action including the use of different treatment approaches or referral to other agencies

To develop, initiate and implement pro-active care pathways

To ensure a coordinated approach working alongside patients, colleagues, and partners

To provide consultation and advice across healthcare and seek out specialist support from the relevant care pathways relevant to the needs of individual patients

To be actively involved in health promotion in the context of strategic planning, delivery of health promotion packages in partnership with other colleagues internal and external to Trust and in response to differing health care needs

Be responsible for medicines management within the healthcare team in line with Trust requirements and work closely with prescribers and pharmacists

To prepare and present Quality Schedule (QS) and Health and Justice Indicators of Performance (HJIP) data

To prepare reports and contribute to Contract Review Meetings with NHSE/I/Home Office

To develop processes and monitor patients in relation to Rule 32 of the Short-Term Holding Facility Rules

To be responsible for the promotion of best practice that ensure the health, safety and security of self, patients and colleagues in accordance with local policies and procedures.

Person Specification



  • RGN/RMN First Level Registration
  • Masters Level or willingness to work towards this


  • Mentorship qualification



  • Experience of leading a team
  • Extensive experience of managing in-patient/prison services
  • A sound, working knowledge of risk management and safeguarding procedures


  • Experience of developing services
  • Experience of working with offenders/criminal justice system/Immigration



  • Healthcare knowledge relevant to Professional Qualification
  • Knowledge of therapeutic approaches used in secure environments
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment/Care Planning


  • Indepndent non-medical prescriber
