These roles are at the centre of the patient engagement team within the wider Multi-Professional Team (MDT). Lead by the Coordination and Engagement Manager, and along with colleagues including Assistant Psychologists and Youth Workers, you would ensure high levels of patient engagement with delivery of care to Children and Young People (CYP) and their families. This will involve being amongst the family's first contact with the service, and having ongoing contact between them on behalf of the MDT.

The post holder will be required to work up to 37.5 hours per week. There may be some travel to outpatient facilities around the region, and occasional evening or weekend events. Confidence with IT is essential, assisting patients and parents to complete routine measures, and maintaining a high standard of recording clinical information. Above all, these are posts based on the ability to communicate with people who may be anxious about embarking on a new relationship with a new NHS service. The CYP Gender Service is evolving, therefore the role demands may be subject to change.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the Coordination and Engagement Manager (CEM), to be responsible for the daily management, coordination and smooth running of an Engagement Team, including Annual Leave, Sickness, 1:1s, Annual Appraisals, workload, staff development & wellbeing including coordination of peer review & supervision.

Provide training and induction for band 4 engagement workers.

Liaise with other agencies.

Under the supervision of the CEM, promote and help implement timely attendance to appointments.

a) Providing information about the service to families.

b) Manage and lead virtual, telephone and face to face appointments with families..

c) Facilitate the implementation of Risk based assessments as directed by CEM and the Clinical Team and develop follow-up strategies for clinical pathways.

d) Manage the day to day running of an Engagement team

Manage the contribution of volunteers or Experts by experience as requested by CEM

To receive regular management supervision from the CEM and clinical supervision/ reflective practice supervision from a member of the clinical team

Qualifications and Training


  • Evidence of continued professional development


  • Formal training or experience in communication skills, preferably at level 2 or above
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Formal training or use of evidence based patient support (eg, MI, SFBT, CBT

Knowledge and Experience


  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and processes
  • Evidence of report writing, including collation and presentation of data
  • Experience of designing and delivering information events
  • Experience of assessing patient concerns in a sensitive and supportive way
  • Experience of line management and managing rotas


  • Has an in-depth knowledge of children's health needs and services
  • Experience of assessing patient concerns in a sensitive and supportive way
  • Knowledge of at least one evidenced based model of patient support (eg.MI, SFBT, CBT) and experience of applying this with patients
