Pilgrim Accident and Emergency Department are looking for a Clinical Educator to join and support our amazing team on a secondment basis for approximately 18 months (job share considered).

Pilgrim Accident and Emergency Department employs a dedicated team of Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Healthcare Support Workers, Porters, Reception staff and Housekeepers and an exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the leadership team supporting their growth and the quality of care received by patients in our care.

The Clinical Educator post is to be worked over a 5-day working week predominately between the hours of 0800-1600hrs Monday to Friday to ensure full capture of the service we offer and to ensure there is ample opportunity to work alongside staff. This post is not included within the daily nursing numbers and has been actively prioritised as a protected role to ensure the team can be nurtured to their fullest potential.

The successful applicant will be accountable along with the band 7 team and the Matron to ensure an established workforce are kept up to date with their training requirements and that new starters to the department are guided appropriately through the induction/ initial integration process within the team.

This is an extensive role that would suit a passionate, dynamic, inspiring professional with the drive for excellence and success.

Main duties of the job

This role will focus on educating staff at all levels encouraging them to learn develop and grow to their fullest potential in line with the current Accident and Emergency educational plan. You will ensure staff are supported to develop their core skills in order to undertake their role proficiently and work in conjunction with the senior nursing team, medical team, clinical education team and peers from other areas.

Person Specification



  • oRegistered Nurse
  • oMentorship or equivalent
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development


  • oDegree or working towards
  • oTeaching experience
  • oInterest in clinical development and teaching.



  • o3 years post qualification experience in any setting.


  • oExperience of delivering education programmes
  • oEmergency Care experience

Knowledge, skills, aptitudes


  • Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda
  • Ability to evidence/ demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the trust framework


  • ALS
  • EPLS

Specific Requirements


  • Able to prioritise workload and work to a timeframe
  • Able to assess clinical competencies.
