An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Gastroenterology CNS team as a Hepatitis C Specialist Nurse.

The successful applicant must be able to prioritise and manage their own workload and have excellent communication skills.

To provide nursing leadership and take responsibility for the care of Hepatitis C patients, incorporating clinical practice, leadership, consultation and education.

To be involved in developing the service for Hepatitis C patients at both local and strategic levels.

To work closely with MDT's as required

Main duties of the job

As a Hepatitis Specialist Nurse, you will use your knowledge to provide support, guidance and care to patients with Hepatitis C.Working flexibly ensuring that they provide a patient focused service at all times.We are seeking someone who is passionate about making a difference to people living with Hepatitis C, assisting with the acceptance of a new diagnosis, and assisting through treatment.You will need to possess clinical assessment skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.You will often be the first point of contact for patients and other medical teams and will play a key role as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Academic, Professional & Vocational)

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree or willing to work towards
  • Evidence of professional development


Desirable

  • Hepatobiliary Course/Substance Misuse/HIV & Blood Borne Infections Course
  • Prescribing Qualification or willing to undertake
  • ENB 998 or equivalent


Previous Experience (Nature & Level)

Essential

  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of Hepatitis C related liver disease and management, substance or alcohol misuse, harm reduction
  • Evidence of teaching in clinical practice


Desirable

  • Experience in treating patients with Hepatitis C
  • Experience in setting up or developing a role/service
  • Audit & research experience


Evidence of Particular: knowledge, skills, aptitudes

Essential

  • Able to work autonomously and as a team member
  • Effective leadership and management skills
  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to the provision of holistic, clinically effective care


Desirable

  • Basic computer/keyboard skills
  • Aware of current health issues
