The Norfolk community eating disorder service is a specialised team caring for adults with an moderate to severe eating disorder. We are currently expanding our pathways and have received significant investment into our service allowing us to move to new purpose built premises, making this an exciting time to join NCEDS.

We are looking for a psychological therapist to help lead the provision of NICE recommended treatments specifically CBT / MANTRA / SSCM / CAT alongside other therapies relevant to the treatment of eating disorders.

The successful candidate will work as part of a highly specialised multi-disciplined team. Previous eating disorder experience is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

Main duties of the job

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. To work as part of the Norfolk Community Eating Disorder Service offering specialist assessment, formulation and psychological therapy to patients with eating disorders across the county of Norfolk and Waveney.

The post holder will be expected to work as an independent psychological therapist carrying a caseload of clients. The post-holder will be involved in the clinical management of patients and ensure close liaison with eating disorder inpatient units, acute hospitals and 3rd sector partners.

  • To deliver NICE recommended psychological therapies informed by individual need and which utilise the appropriate range of cognitive behavioural theoretical and therapeutic models.
  • To continually monitor and evaluate the psychological interventions provided, employing service specific outcome measures as required, reformulating and adjusting hypotheses and interventions as new information becomes available and liaising effectively with other professionals involved.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within NCEDS.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, carers or group.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, psychological formulation, treatment and discharge of clients and manage and maintain a caseload in line with service guidelines.
  • To communicate, in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, to patients / clients, family carers and others as appropriate, information that may be contentious or highly distressing concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients /clients under their care
  • To provide specialist professional contributions to relevant multi-agency clinical meetings.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management when working directly with clients and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management, relating to the client and to others.
  • To produce reports on patients/ clients, in a timely manner, that conveys the key findings of psychological assessment and formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrers. To ensure that these reports are put in all appropriate medical notes both in the base and network
  • To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients within the service and, where appropriate, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
  • Working closely with acute colleagues adhering to MEED guidance and working closely with our third sector partners, Eating Matters.


Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • (Psychologist) Professional qualifications (e.g. Doctorate In Clinical / Counselling Psychology).
  • Experience of, and training in evidence-based psychological interventions (e.g. CBT / MANTRA, SSCM, Family based Therapies)
  • HPC registered Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist or Other Recognised Mental Health Professional Qualification. (i.e. Registered Mental Nurse Social Worker or Occupational Therapist) and Post registration clinical qualifications and accreditation in a recognised psychological therapy relevant to the treatment of eating disorders e.g. BABCP, BACP, ACAT or UKCP


Desirable

  • Evidence of post qualification development
  • Post qualification training/development in a psychological therapy (e.g. CBT / MANTRA, SSCM, Family Therapy).


Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of working with clients with eating disorders.
  • Proven experience of good multi-agency working relationships
  • Experience of working with a psychological model
  • Evidence of supervision training and experience.
  • Experience of managing own workload to meet objectives.


Desirable

  • Experience of training others.
  • Experience of service development.
  • Experience of working with the families of people with eating disorders
  • Experience of working within the CPA framework / Care co-ordination of complex cases.
