Main duties of the job

To facilitate renal replacement therapy on paediatric patients with end-stage kidney disease at home by providing a training programme and continual support and monitoring. To work closely and cross cover all renal replacement modalities, including peritoneal dialysis, incentre haemodialysis and home haemodialysis.

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, treatment and management of the client group. S/he will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. S/he will actively contribute to the clinical governance processes within the service.

Person Specification



  • First Level Registration RN (Child)/ RSCN
  • Evidence of Level 6 post graduate study


  • Renal/ Surgical Course
  • Appropriate Management or Leadership Course



  • Substantial relevant post registration experience in relevant speciality
  • Evidence of professional leadership, leading to innovation in practice
  • Evidence of Multi disciplinary / multi agency working


  • Experience in peritoneal dialysis
  • Experience working with children needing haemodialysis
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of research activities
