We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an emerging Specialist or established Specialist Speech and Language Therapy to join our dedicated and passionate MDT at Cygnet Wast Hills.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to support the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting, implementing and embedding functional communication systems; this is a hands-on role with high levels of contact with individuals in the care of the service. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment. You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite service manager at Cygnet Wast Hills. Postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is desirable but we are able to provide you with accredited training if this is an area for your personal development. A full-time SLT assistant will support you in the delivery of Speech and Language therapy interventions at this location.

The team also supports individuals who may be detained under the Mental Health Act, as well as those who have complex behaviours, or who have significant difficulties with social engagement. In line with building the right support, the site will support 10 individuals in the main house as well as 11 bespoke single occupancy flats, enabling the service to provide support to individuals who have different levels of need in their own space which is tailored to their own sensory needs.

We are looking for some with:
  • HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
  • Knowledge of sensory needs and how these may impact on functioning and regulation
  • Dysphagia training (desirable training available)
  • Excellent communication & time management skills
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
