About you

As part of the essential requirements to this job you will have:
  • AAT qualification or equivalent accounting experience
  • Understanding of the principles of accounting and accounting standards
  • Specialist knowledge of control procedures and reporting requirements
  • Experience of working in an accountancy role
  • Good organisational skills and a logical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people throughout the organisation
  • Excellent presentation skills

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the Financial Accounts team with responsibility for a number of control accounts. They will be a direct contact with the payroll and pensions teams and provide support for the Trust's salary sacrifice schemes.

The post holder will support the production of the Trust's financial statements, for monthly returns and the year end accounts process. This will involve monthly balance sheet reconciliations, producing the cash flow statement and monitoring the provisions that the Trust holds.

The post holder will lead on the Trust's losses and compensations procedures, ensuring compliance with internal and external guidance, and preparing papers to Audit Committee as required.

The post holder will line manage the apprentice accountant within the Financial Accounts team.

  • Knowledge of NHS finance
  • Knowledge of ledger systems/accounting strategy and budgetary control processes



  • Three years of accounting experience
  • IT literate including extensive use of Word and Excel


  • Line management experience

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to explain finance information to non-finance managers
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret financial information
  • Manage own workload within agreed parameters and deadlines


  • Logical approach to problem solving



  • GCSE grade A to C in Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • AAT qualified or equivalent accounting experience
