We are looking for an experience specialist screening practitioner to take on the Lead SSP role at UCLH. UCLH is the bowel cancer screening hub for North Central London, covering clinics and endoscopy lists at UCLH, Whittington Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.

You will lead a team of SSPs ensuring the team is skilled to undertake the range of duties required of an SSP whilst supporting the team to move the service forward. You will have excellent leadership and communication skills and a proven track record of leading service change and engaging with your workforce to deliver high quality care.

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the Bowel cancer screening manager and clinical lead to ensure smooth patient pathways that meet our target waiting timesSupport and encourage a growing team of nurses to deliver the best possible care.

Lead on governance processes and QMS for the serviceLead on external QMS visits and audit requests with lead clinicianWork with clinical lead to ensure MDT is efficient and effectiveProvide flexibility within the team to address changes in demand and/or capacity of the service, including working across NHS sites (Whittington and Chase Farm Hospitals)

UCLH has a well-established team of SSPs who work closely with the endoscopists, administrative team and endoscopy nurses to deliver high quality care.

You will be fully supported in your professional development within this post, with a variety of academic courses and inhouse training opportunities available.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications


  • First level registered nurse
  • Educated to Masters level or for completion within 24 months of appointment (in Health related subject or Education)


  • Leadership & /or management Qualification
  • Be an independent prescriber in accordance to the trusts NMP policy
  • Appropriate post registration qualification



  • Relevant experience within bowel cancer screening programme
  • Substantial experience in bowel cancer
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Evidence of developing and maintaining a high quality service
