The role of the Head Orthoptist is to lead and co-ordinate the development and implementation of Orthoptic services within the Trust , and to support the professional and personal development of 7 Orthoptists and one visual screening practitioner.

You will represent the orthoptic department at management and governance meetings within the ophthalmology department, the Trust and the wider Devon ICB.

We are looking for someone keen to integrate into the current team and provide clinical and managerial support to the orthoptic department.

You will join a multi-speciality team within the West of England Eye Unit and will participate in joint consultant, optometry and other specialised clinics.

You will provide managerial support to a well-established extended role with the stroke service. The department provides significant support to the stroke service both as an inpatient and outpatient service.

You will support the development of an Orthoptist ACP role in paediatric ophthalmology which will be one of the first roles of its kind in the country.

As Head Orthoptist you will be responsible for managing the school vision screening of 4-5-year olds across the region, with vision testing delivered by a vision screening practitioner. Orthoptic support is also provided to local special schools and child development centres

The post is based at the West of England Eye Unit at the Wonford site, but orthoptic clinics are provided at various community hospitals across the region.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week over 4 days
