An opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior leader to drive the development of specialised clinical networks and transformation projects as the Associate Director Networks and Integration within the South London Office of Specialised Services (SLOSS). This role is available as maternity leave cover for a 6 month fixed term contract or secondment opportunity until end March 2025.

There are a range of specialised clinical networks working across pathways and systems of care to support the delivery of high quality, patient centred care in South London and the South of England. The networks are a key part of the specialised transformation architecture and bring together patients, clinicians and systems to improve services and patient outcomes and experience. In recent years the networks have grown organically, which has led to a large number of networks with variation in mandate, maturity, resourcing, scope, structure, function, remit and responsibility.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit an Associate Director to continue to implement agreed recommendations for network development to enhance delivery and integration. They will provide leadership to networks managers to support them in operationalising agreed priorities, navigating system governance, problem solving when issues arise, supporting consensus building and unblocking hurdles to progress. This includes facilitating relationship building and integration with integrated care systems (ICSs), in line with the specialised delegation agenda.

The post holder will also be responsible for the transformation programme within SLOSS in particular the pilot integration projects delivering agreed programmes in cardiac, renal, sickle cell, blood borne viruses and neurology. These transformation initiatives are designed to demonstrate the case for, and benefits of, integration.

About us

The post is hosted by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, but is funded by, and will work on behalf of, the South London specialised services partner organisations, with broader engagement in neighbouring regions. Whilst the role is a combination of remote and site based working, the post holder will need the ability to work flexibly across South London sites including South East London Integrated Care System, South West London Integrated Care System and all provider network hosts and members.

Job responsibilities

Working alongside the Director and other Associate Director for SLOSS, the post holder will be operating at a senior level within the SLOSS team. They will work with system leaders at executive level, managers and clinicians across South London, as well as NHS England representatives from national and regional teams. The post holder will work collaboratively with ICB colleagues and NHS England specialised commissioning, engaging with and influencing the regional transformation agenda.

The ideal candidate will have excellent programme management skills, along with a strong knowledge of the NHS, policy, and organisations in the region. A strategic self-starter with confidence and the ability to facilitate progress through varied or challenging agendas is essential for success in this role.

Person Specification



  • Relevant Masters / MBA, equivalent professional qualification or equivalent experience.



  • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the changing NHS environment, strategy, and policy agendas
  • Evidence of leading successful programme and / or operational performance and improvement at a strategic level


  • Experience of leading a high performing clinical network to successful delivery of business plan with evidence of improvement to patient care and system benefits



  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written, oral, presentation, facilitation), networking and negotiation skills with a track record in consistently delivering performance targets and writing complex business cases, policies and change.
