We are seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our Clinical Nurse specialist team within the Medical and Specialist Dermatology Service at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be an experienced nurse with expert knowledge and experience in providing advanced specialised care to our patient population. Educated to a masters level the successful post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner, making clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients with dermatological conditions. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Nurse specialist team, in conjunction with senior nursing and consultant colleagues to facilitate how best to achieve quality patient experience outcome whilst acting within clearly defined policies/procedure guidelines, and codes of conduct. Good medicines management and communication skills, strong clinical leadership, experience of audit and an interest in participating in research are paramount to the role.The ANP will be required to formulate the development of clinical guidance for aspects of clinical practice within the Dermatology Service. The post holder will develop new areas of practice, in particular the nurse led day care service, working closely with nursing, medical and management colleagues ensuring quality standards are met.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the CNS team
  • Clinically lead nursing care throughout the various patient pathways
  • Provide education and support throughout the junior doctor rotation
  • Provide education to the CNS and nursing teams, responsible for the education pathway of staff
  • Enable collaboration across the multi-disciplinary teams through complex decision making
  • Manage risk thus enabling the services to meet changing population,patient, and service delivery needs.
  • Transformation, quality and improvement initiatives to develop the services.

Person Specification



  • Advanced clinical assessment
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in contexts that are unfamiliar, complex, and unpredictable and provide consultancy services to their own and other professions on therapeutic interventions, practice and service development
  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills to comprehensively assess patients
  • Experience in independently facilitating Nurse-led clinics


  • Ability to develop working relationships locally, regionally and nationally

  • Broad clinical experience relevant to the post, including specialist skills and experience working as a CNS in the speciality.
  • Ability to lead and work within the Nursing, medical and other professionals allied to medicine
  • Experience of teaching patients and staff and others including health promotion and prevention orientation
  • Possess the ability to identify and implement systems to promote their contribution and demonstrate the impact of advanced level nursing to the healthcare team and the wider health and social care sector
  • Evidence of performing audit and research and dissemination of findings


  • A track record of continuously contributing to education and teaching
