Our Children's team provide acute care across a range of clinical specialties including but not limited to: oncology, haematology, respiratory, diabetes, endocrine, neurology and day surgery. We also provide a children's community nursing team.At QH we have 30 acute inpatient beds on Tropical Lagoon which includes 4 HDU level 2 beds. We have a children's complex discharge co-ordinator to support the most effective flow across our children's and neonatal areas and community services, also working with our tertiary hospitals to facilitate repatriating children back to QH and therefore closer to home. We have practice educators across all of children's services to provide education to all our staff in the clinical and classroom setting.Our Children's and Young People's Assessment Unit (CYPAU) at QH is located next to Children's Emergency Department. It is a 9 bedded 24hr facility used for the assessment and treatment of children who require urgent medical care..Tropical Bay is our day unit where we provide our oncology and Haematology services alongside our elective day care procedures.We have a 32-cot level 2 NICU, with a transitional care team working closely with our maternity colleagues enabling mums and babies to stay together and we have our community neonatal team who facilitate discharge home and continue to support at home.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a role model and provide leadership in the clinical area and will be responsible for overseeing assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. Responsible in education and supervision of staff as coordinated with the Children's PDN. To demonstrate advanced clinical specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of individualised evidence based patient centred care while supervising the work of others. To expect to take charge on each shift and to supervise and co-ordinate other staffs as appropriate develops self and others professionally.

We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We're pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen's and King George hospitals and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre Radiotherapy Centre Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

  • RSCN, RN (Child Branch)
  • Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor.


Desirable

  • Leadership/Quality Improvement
  • Evidence of professional development - e.g HDU course.


SKILLS/ ABILITIES

  • EPALS certified.


EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Experienced as Senior Band 5 Nurse - has experienced of taking charge on shift of the ward.
