Ward Sister / Charge Nurse - Acute Care Mental Health

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Mental Health Nurse to work as part of the Multi-disciplinary Team on St Non Ward, Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest.

The role will be to assess, plan and deliver excellent care for individuals with Mental Health needs on a 15 bedded Older Adult Acute Admission Ward.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision and to teach other nursing and non nursing staff. The post holder undertakes duties specific to a defined client group on the ward. The post holder will take charge in the absence of the Ward Manager who has overall continuing responsibility.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge


  • Current NMC registration
  • Specialist knowledge within the field of clinical skills gained through theoretical and practical training and experience to postgraduate diploma level
  • Sound knowledge of clinical issues within area of practice
  • Must be able to work safely and demonstrate understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Maintains high standards in the workplace as directed by policies and procedures including sickness
  • Knowledge of clinical supervision and aware of clinical effectiveness in work area


  • WNB 998/Practice Teacher Award and assessing or equivalent
  • HCR-20 Training
  • Specialist knowledge within relevant specialist field obtained through advanced post registration specialist training
  • Have understanding and knowledge of local area and facilities within area that clients may access



  • Experience of working with people who have complex mental health needs and who may present challenging behaviour/ risk of violence to others
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and must be willing to undertake identified local courses/ study days and mandatory training
