This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Registered children's nurse with proven clinical skills to become a ward based clinical leader within a busy inpatient paediatric department and Children's assessment unit based at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Main duties of the job

To lead in the delivery of professional nursing care to patients ensuring the highest possible standards of care are received by children/ young people and their carers while in the ward/unit.

To assist the ward manager and deputise as appropriate in their absence.

To act as an excellent clinical role model and team leader to all staff.

Person Specification



  • RN Child or equivalent
  • Mentorship qualification


  • Previous experience at Band 6 within specialty
  • Leadership training

Clinical skills and experience


  • Able to prioritise workload and cope under pressure in order to meet deadlines
  • understands and implements evidence based practice
  • Holds EPALS certification or willing to work toward attaining
  • Ability to work on own initiative using sound decision making and problem solving skills


  • Previous experience of managing a team
  • negotiating and influencing skills

Personal and professional devlopment


  • Able to motivate and inspire others
  • Can demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development
  • Motivated to deliver high quality, child centred nursing care
