Brent Pre school Speech and Language Therapy Team

Looking for your first role as a speech and language therapist? Looking to develop and further your skills?

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapists to join the Community/ Pre-schools Team. The team support children and families in community clinics and Family Wellbeing Centres across the London borough of Brent.

Main duties of the job

Your role would include:
  • The assessment of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs including- DLD, ASD, speech sound difficulties, selective mutism, stammering and hearing impairment
  • Providing direct intervention to children and families
  • Liaising with other professionals in early years settings, health and social care
  • The delivery of online workshops to parents and carers

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Current AHP with UK HCPC registration and RCSLT membership


Experience

Essential

  • Working with children in clinics and/or school based settings


Desirable

  • Experience training others
  • Adult-Child Interaction (ACI)
  • Working with multi-cultural client groups


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of needs of parents, teachers and others
  • Flexibility
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Well developed concentration skills
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Manual dexterity for signing
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to carry out swallowing assessment and use of high and low technical assessment equipment
  • Understanding of Normal Child Development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
  • Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech, Language and Communication impairments and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual children
  • Understanding of Education Practice and Policy and National Curriculum including Children and Families Act 2014
  • Religious, Cultural and Linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to school aged children)
  • Awareness of the principles of audit
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of professional standards of record keeping
  • Contribution of other agencies in supporting school aged children
