We are looking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic full time (part time will be considered) Band 5 Registered Nurses in our Centralised Outpatients department. This position is to join our Outpatients Nursing team in the Brunel Building, also covering Cossham and Yate, which is all part of the Core Clinical Services Division at North Bristol Trust.

The departments are busy, dedicated multi professional teams who work alongside the centralised Outpatients nursing team to provide an innovative and expanding service for our multi-speciality patients.

Outpatient Nursing covers most specialities within NBT, and various Gates specialise in specific divisions. For example, the Renal department predominantly sees patients who are pre and post kidney transplant as well as dialysis patients. Next door, Gate 5A covers rheumatology, vascular and haematology and you will gain experience in these areas too as well as other Outpatients areas in Gate 12, 24 and 36 in the Brunel Building.
  • You will be supported by the wider Nursing team to develop your skills and continuing professional development.
  • You will provide leadership to the Outpatients nursing team.
  • You will be key to providing an excellent Outpatient service and patient experience for North Bristol Trust patients.
  • You will work with the wider team to jointly manage change improve quality.

Please note, we are not able to offer night shifts

Key responsibilities include:
  • Organise andparticipatein the delivery ofhigh standardsofevidence basednursing care.
  • Take regular responsibility to carry outrequiredplanned, direct patient care to a high standard without direct supervisionin accordance withestablished nursing procedures and policies.
  • To report to theappropriate membersof the multidisciplinary team any significant changes in a patients condition or situation.
  • Responsible for taking charge of clinics in the department on a regularbasis
  • Take personal responsibility as a team leader for the delivery of care of patients in a defined area.
  • To contribute towards health promotion for all patients by providing education,supportand advice, as necessary Ensure referral toappropriate professionalsor agencies asrequired.
  • In the absence of senior staffbe responsible fordelegation and supervision ofappropriate workto other qualified staff, AssistantPractitioners ,HealthCareAssistantsand students
  • Where relevant, responsible for the admission, assessment and preparation of patients undergoing treatment or investigations.
  • Escort patients to other wards or departments asrequired.
  • To take personal responsibility for ensuring that patients aretreated with courtesy at all timesand that the individual needs of patients arerespectedand confidentiality ismaintainedat all times.
  • Liaise effectively with other disciplines or departments asappropriate.
  • To be able to act in emergency situations and to be familiar with emergency procedures including fire and resuscitation. Tobe responsible forthe support and direction of junior staff in such situations according to Trust policy.
  • Tobe responsible forensuring provision of a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives,visitorsand colleagues.


Person Specification

Education / Training / Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (registration valid with NMC)


Desirable

  • Educated to degree level
  • Hold a recognised teaching and assessing/mentor qualification
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)


Work Experience

Essential

  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to perform or willingness to undertake training for additional skills required by the department. ie. venepuncture, ECGs, Venesection, vascular dressings, assisting with minor procedures


Desirable

  • Significant experience at Band 5 within the NHS
  • Evidence of assessing/ mentoring nursing students/ and health care support workers


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Advanced communication skills, verbal & written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and multidisciplinary team. Proven ability to work effectively in a team
  • Well organised
  • Ability to work as a professional role model at all times with a positive 'can do' attitude to work and change
  • Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service
