Main duties of the job

What does the role involve?

The role will involves setting up and coordinating research studies, with emphasis on Diabetes, Weight Management and Gastro, providing the cross cover for studies and other areas as the service requires.

You will be delivering on key objectives and developing research capacity within the trust's Research and Development department.

Then we want to hear from you! You will recruit patients into studies and be responsible for all aspects or enrolment and data collection, with the necessary support and guidance.

You will work collaboratively with the clinical studies team and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the management of clinical trials.

You will be supported by the wider research team, but we would love you to work autonomously, manage your own work load and provide cover and support for your colleagues when its needed.

Previous experience working within a clinical research environment would be desirable, but our outstanding team are happy to work with an experienced RGN to learn all the skills you need to succeed.

Job responsibilities

he role of the Research Nurse is to assist in the management and co-ordination of research projects involving patients, families and carers at Somerset Foundation NHS Trust. This post will involve the safe conduct of research involving both NIHR portfolio studies and industry funded research, working within the South West Peninsula Clinical Research Network. The role will involve facilitating the aims of the NIHR at a local level by ensuring that the Trust meets its targets for research delivery.

  • Demonstrable, recent healthcare professional experience in General Medicine/Surgery


  • Previous experience of data collection.
