We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Band 5 Mental Health Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions. This role involves working closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective and holistic care.

Snowdrop Ward is a modern newly refurbished 14 bedded ward based at Melbury lodge in Winchester which provides assessment and nursing care for older persons with acute mental health difficulties. We are committed to providing an exceptional standard of treatment and patient centred care for our service users in a safe, cooperative and therapeutic environment.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes Medics, Nurses, Therapists and Therapy technicians, Pharmacists and Pharmacy technicians, Health care support workers, Recovery workers and Social workers all working to provide the best possible care and aid people in their recovery. We offer excellent training and personal development support. Including regular supervision and appraisal.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be a registered mental health Nurse, have a genuine interest in working with older people and be able to demonstrate a real commitment to providing high quality and compassionate care to patients and their families. You can expect a rewarding role, with clear clinical leadership responsibilities.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Computer skills, Experience post qualifying, Successful completion of preceptorship, Commitment to lifelong learning, Ability to communicate effectively with people who have difficulty understanding, Ability to recognise and respond to behaviour that challenges, Full and detailed knowledge of all legislation relating to mental health care, Good facilitation skills, Evidence of effective interpersonal skills, Ability to organise self and others to achieve tasks, Able to co-facilitate group work, Ability to motivate service users, Good organisational skills.


  • Mentorship course, Clinical supervision training, Knowledge of another language, Able to co-facilitate group work, Able to carry out staff supervision.



  • Able to attend a five day full time induction programme, Able to attend and participate in all statutory training events, including manual handling and management of aggression, Prepared to undertake mentorship course as soon as possible after appointment
