We are delighted to invite applications for a Clinical Research Nurse/ Trial Co-ordinator to join our dynamic, friendly and supportive Thoracic Oncology Research team. The post offers a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team with an established reputation in the design and delivery of clinical research studies. We seek a resourceful, organised and flexible team player with an eye for detail and exceptional communication skills, who shares our passion for innovation and excellence, with a focus on the early detection of lung cancer.

You will have experience of working in a patient-facing role or demonstrate the skill and empathy to be able to thrive in this environment. Ideally you will have a good understanding of ICH-GCP and experience of caring for patients undergoing investigation or treatment for cancer. However, applications from candidates with relevant knowledge and experience who demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, and aptitude to develop personally and professionally in this specialist area will be considered. The post is available for 12 months in the first instance, either as fixed-term contract or an internal secondment opportunity.

The successful candidate will benefit from an individualised orientation programme and access to relevant training, education and mentorship to support their development.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work closely with colleagues in the Thoracic Oncology Research team, wider R& D department, and clinical multi-disciplinary team to provide efficient and effective co-ordination of clinical research studies. They will contribute to a wide variety of clinical research activity, always practicing in line with ethically approved protocols, regulatory frameworks, ICH-GCP, and local policy and procedure.

The role incorporates identification and recruitment of eligible research participants, collection of high quality clinical, patient-reported and health related quality of life data scheduling patient appointments at designated timepoints maintaining accurate and contemporaneous records and carrying out research-specific assessments and interventions within own scope of practice.

The post-holder will be based at the HLRI on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with a requirement to work across a range of clinical settings at Royal Papworth Hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in a relevant science or health care subject or experience in either clinical research or clinical audit at a minimum of NHS Band 4 or above.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a health or relevant science related environment, including healthcare research
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Computer literacy with demonstrable experience of Microsoft Windows
  • Excellent accuracy and the ability to pay close attention to detail in written and electronic communication and information storage
  • Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information to colleagues, patients or relatives
  • Ability to plan and organise own work and motivate others


Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking and proven ability in coordinating research trials
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of interviewing patients
  • Experience of writing standard operating procedures and providing input into developing policies
  • Experience of working in a laboratory setting
  • Assisting in the maintenance of a computer database within a clinical environment
  • Clinical skills -- ECG, venepuncture, blood pressure etc.
  • Basic laboratory skills e.g. use of centrifuge, pipetting, aliquoting
  • Proficient in use of databases/database applications
  • Confident in handling large sets of data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include diplomacy and sensitivity
