The Senior Network Engineer will work as part of a team in supporting the voice and data network services to ensure the provision of an efficient and reliable 24 hour, 365 day service.
Senior Networks Engineers will provide operational technical support and will support others in problem management within the networks team.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Network Engineer will provide technical support and, with appropriate support from the Principal Network Engineer and Network Solutions Manager, will be responsible for incident management within the networks team. The post holder will provide specialist 2nd & 3rd line support and resolving incidents that are often complex in nature across multiple disciplines.
The aim of this role is to provide Network/Telecoms support for the systems and services used by the Trust, resolving incidents passed from second line support and supporting the Network Solutions Manager in order to maintain 'business as usual'.

Job responsibilities
- To provide specialist support in the operational management, implementation, and maintenance of voice and data communication networks within the appropriate networks team assisting in the provision of continuous and acceptable service to all end users.
- To provide support in delivering cabling requirements to provide long term resilient infrastructures capable of supporting the joint needs for data and telecommunications.
- To provide support in the production and enforcement of policies and procedures covering security and integrity of the Trusts communication systems and networks to protect against unauthorised access or loss of revenue through system fraud.
- The post holder is accountable to senior managers within the Technology function of Digital Services under the management of the Network Solutions Manager as team leader and works closely with other managers and staff within the Service.
- To contribute to the production of reports and presentations as appropriate within Digital Services.
- To carry out the installation and commissioning of network equipment involving some complex work with tools, some lifting of heavy equipment and requiring significant keyboard skills to ensure accuracy when programming this. Occasionally this will involve working in dirty and difficult areas.
- Monitor and check the standards of work of all relevant staff and approved contractors ensuring contractual obligations are being delivered.
- The post holder will be required to contribute to the development and implementation of Key Performance Indicators and Critical Success Factors within Digital Services.
- The post holder will be required to monitor and manage delivery against these targets and produce regular management reports detailing performance levels and provide supporting information to explain improvements or degradation in service.
- The post holder will liaise with others to ensure they are briefed and up to date on any performance issues that may require discussion with Partner Organisations OLIT
- To assist the implementation of voice and data strategies
- In conjunction with the Networks Solution Manager and Principal Network Engineers to deploy and test new systems within the service

Qualifications
Essential
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) (or working towards one) or equivalent knowledge voice/data networks knowledge and experience.
- Relevant first degree or equivalent experience
- 3 ITIL Foundation (or equivalent experience).
Experience
Essential
- Substantial knowledge and experience in telecoms and/or data networks and systems - particularly Cisco networking
- Experience of being responsible for financial or physical assets, particularly the management of contractors.
Desirable
- Experience of clinical practices and working within specialist environments.
Skills

- Ability to deal with staff at appropriate levels within the Health Informatics Service, its Partner Organisations and with service providers, service users, and professional bodies outside of the Health Informatics Service
- Ability to share technical knowledge with others and contribute to the training of more junior grades of staff
- Make formal presentations to technical and non-technical groups on complex technical subjects not readily understood by them.
- Evidence of the ability to interpret and follow technical /professional/ administrative IM& T policies, acting with minimum guidelines
- Ability to work with the minimum of supervision, able to manage own time and workload.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to react to rapidly changing requirements.
- Ability to frequently travel within the North Mersey community.
