An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join Nottinghamshire Healthcare as a Nurse Consultant in Tissue Viability & Wound Management. Our specialist team covers a wide variety of clinical services, giving you the chance to innovate and lead exceptional practice in wound management and prevention strategies.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will clinically lead the Specialist Tissue Viability team, who support Community, Inpatient, Mental health, Forensic Mental Health, Offender Health and Childrens Services. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of excellence in wound management across our services - setting the clinical standards, developing the teaching and research & development activity, using evidence to advance practice as well as spending a proportion of your time in clinical practice managing complex wound presentations. You will help us embed a learning and inquisitive approach, ensuring we are at the forefront of clinical practice. You will be an expert in wound management, with recognised post graduate skills and qualifications, including non medical prescribing.

Person Specification



  • Registered Nurse
  • Speciality specific post graduate qualification in wound management
  • Masters Degree in relevant field
  • Evidence of advanced clinical assessment
  • Registered non-medical prescriber (v300)
  • Formal leadership development certification
  • Research methodology course and experience
  • Developed analytical and numeracy skills
  • Sharp debridement qualification & experience
  • Post graduate teaching qualification (or included in degree / Masters)
  • Lower leg management qualification

Knowledge and Skills


  • Robust understanding of the current Specialist Wound Care assessment, management, and provision by Multi-Disciplinary Teams working across all sectors service by the Trust.
  • Excellent communication skills highly developed interpersonal skills, including negotiation, facilitation influencing and presentation skills and evidence of ability to engage with staff and stake holders at all levels
  • Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards in the Health Care Agenda
  • Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data
  • Research methods and participation in research



  • Experienced nurse with significant experience in a senior clinical/management role
  • Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality ( this may include wound management, vascular nursing, district nursing, dermatology) that demonstrates the E E Nursing 874 v1.2 Jan 2023 required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently
  • Experience of assessing training needs
  • Experience of resource management i.e. financial human capital
  • Experience in Service planning, project management and performance monitoring/reporting, quality improvement
  • Experience in Mental Health, Community and Forensics Nursing
