The HR Operations team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH), provides an HR advisory service to line managers across a full spectrum of HR and employment matters across the hospital.

Main duties of the job

Are you seeking the next step in your HR career and looking to join a fantastic team? We're seeking an experienced HR professional who shares our values and passion for delivering outstanding services.

The role involves providing HR advice to line managers on a wide range of matters through the application of Trust policies, interpretation of UK employment law and best practices across all levels of staff.

Providing HR support to our colleagues to help the hospital deliver the best care for every patient is a rewarding experience. HR Advisors work collaboratively with managers and services within NNUH to deliver the best possible people management outcomes, and support managers to improve management capability which enables them to enrich the employee experience.

You will be highly professional, with a customer-centered approach, and a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. You will be expected to demonstrate the ability to deliver positive outcomes and prioritising competing demands with a complex and challenging workload.

You will play a key role in championing the NNUH People Promise, our PRIDE values and 'Know Your Staff', our compassionate approach to people management, as well as promote our commitment to 'Our Hospital For All' and our 'just and learning culture'.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:
  • Provide advice and in-depth support to managers at all levels of the organisation to help them in managing their staff, e.g. explaining terms and conditions, advising on performance concerns, attendance management, right to work queries and general policies.
  • Coach and advise line managers in the practical application of Trust policies in the management of their staff and regarding the procedural or potential legal implications of their decisions at any relevant meeting or by email, Teams or telephone.
  • Review and provide HR advice and feedback to line managers regarding draft reports and documents to ensure they meet organisational requirements. Prepare letters, policies and notes of meetings to communicate complex employment and policy matters.
  • Act as an advisor across a busy caseload, providing a range of advice for individual cases adhering to HR policy, seeking advice where appropriate. Liaise with Senior HR team members and Central HR Operations team manager to ensure that cases are progressed in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings both in person and via Teams to provide HR support and advice, sometimes with highly complex or distressing situations, for example whether the ending of employment or other course of action may be appropriate. This will require you to consider a range of information and apply employment law and best practice to provide the possible range of options.

Essential

  • CIPD qualification level 5 or equivalent demonstrable experience.


Experience

Essential

  • Some experience of advising in the practical application of HR practices and supporting complex HR issues e.g. sickness absence management, capability, misconduct and grievance management.


Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of use of initiative and problem solving.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UK Employment law and its application in the workplace.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation and quickly establish relationships and credibility.
