An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Long Covid and Respiratory Out-patient team based at The James Cook University Hospital. The team reviews patients in clinics at various locations in the trust and also within the community. The post is fixed term for 12 months to provide cover for maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

To provide advanced clinical and professional Physiotherapy to the Respiratory Out-patient team and Long Covid team and to provide support to the Physiotherapy team lead, ensuring that the Acute Physiotherapy Team contributes to the Strategic plan for South Tees NHS Trust.

Undertake physiotherapy advanced assessments of patients with diverse and complex conditions, providing a clinical diagnosis (where appropriate) and to develop and delivery individualised treatment programmes.

The post holder will be expected to have experience and knowledge of the physiotherapy management of long term respiratory conditions and long covid, and be able to provide comprehensive assessments and treatment plans to this patient group. Relevant post graduate study, leadership training and experience is also desirable.

This post will offer development in clinical skills and the post holder will be supported to attend relevant post graduate courses. We have an established and comprehensive training programme and our staff are encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops, clinical supervision and the appraisal process. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research and the Hospital has close links with both the University of Teesside and Durham University.

Person Specification



  • BSc or Diploma in appropriate profession
  • Achieved or willing to work towards relevant Post-graduate qualification/training
  • HCPC registration


  • Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days)



  • Theoretical knowledge and applied clinical practice in a broad range of Respiratory and rehabilitation areas.
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills.
  • Evidence of audit and research



  • Experience of working with patients with respiratory conditions
  • Experience working within the NHS
  • Can demonstrate relevant/varied post-graduate experience across a variety of clinical areas


  • Experience of working in respiratory outpatients areas.
