We are excited to offer a leadership position at band 6 level, which can be filled on a permanent or secondment basis based on the outcome of the interview process. We are seeking an ideal candidate who has prior experience in anaesthetics to fulfil this role.

Our theatre complex comprises 24 theatres, we are proud to offer some of the most advanced facilities in the country. We recently expanded our theatre service to include a major trauma centre, the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital, which will house five new state-of-the-art theatres and a helipad.

Join our exceptional surgical team at Salford Royal Foundation Trust, where we use innovative anaesthetic techniques to provide the highest level of care to our patients. Our specialists cover a wide range of areas, including Upper and Lower GI, Plastics, Gynaecology, Elective and Trauma Orthopaedics, E.N.T, and Urology. Anaesthetics are administered throughout the hospital, including interventional radiology, MR Scan, and A& E resuscitation

Main duties of the job

The Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to support evidence-based, patient-centred care of the highest quality. This role requires exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, with outstanding organisational skills and the capacity to work independently.

As a Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will need to make informed clinical decisions, even in complex situations, and exhibit a high degree of commitment to educating, empowering, and supporting colleagues in the theatre environment. You must possess excellent leadership and people management skills, as well as demonstrate the necessary qualities to become part of a forward-thinking and innovative team that aims to deliver the safest possible care.

Ideal candidates should possess appropriate people skills and exhibit a strong commitment to ongoing professional development, keeping abreast of the latest research and advancements in the field of anaesthesia. The successful applicant will be expected to actively contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practice, in accordance with Salford Royal Foundation Trust's policies and procedures, while continuously striving to improve patient outcomes.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receivea full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recognised anaesthetic qualification (e.g. NMC registered Nurse or HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner)
  • Prior anaesthetic experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to ongoing learning


Desirable

  • Experience in mentoring, teaching, and assessing staff or students
  • Demonstrable experience in leadership, and the ability to provide clinical leadership to support evidence-based, patient-centred care
  • Experience in leading or participating in quality improvement projects or audits


Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and other healthcare professionals
  • Experience in managing complex patient cases or emergency situations


Desirable

  • Experience in using IT systems to manage patient records and theatre information
  • Knowledge of local and national policies and guidelines related to anaesthesia and perioperative practice.
  • Extensive prior experience in anaesthetics
