We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed clinically experienced person with a good working knowledge of operating theatres. The role involves overseeing the management, maintenance, and replacement of equipment within the department and implementing efficiencies in ongoing procurement of consumables and non consumables. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work clinically for a minimum of 25% of their role, in their area of expertise.

Main duties of the job

Manage and maintain equipment within the department and keep up-to-date inventories.

Plan for replacement of equipment and liaise with external suppliers to address equipment issues.

In conjunction with the education team, ensure staff are fully competent in using new equipment.

Improve efficiency in the procurement of equipment and consumables.

Organise appropriate disposal/ auction of obsolete/broken equipment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To work alongside the theatre teams, project manager and buildings management team on the NOTSSCaN theatre new build regarding clinical equipment procurement.

To act in a senior administrative, clinical, and technical capacity in relation to equipment, surgical instruments and non- stock items within NOTSSCaN Theatres.

To work collaboratively with the Trust Procurement teams to ensure streamlining and cost savings across all NOTSSCaN theatre departments.

To remain updated and informed about national and local medical safety alerts, NICE guidance and use evidence-based practice to ensure patient safety.

To act as a positive, professional, role model in promoting clinical excellence and offer expert, professional development advice ensuring practice is patient centered and evidence based.

To Communicate with staff in other Divisions within the Trust and nationally to standardise practice.

Person Specification



  • Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in theatre practice.


  • Evidence of previous experience in quality improvement/ Change
