Are you an experienced Occupational Therapists looking for a new challenge? Would you like to work in a dynamic highly experienced team? Do you enjoy the challenge of supporting people with neurological conditions, with their person centred goals? If this is you come and join our team to work in a years maternity cover.

You will join our dynamic multi-disciplinary Community Neuro team, based in Harpenden Memorial Hospital, consisting of OTs, physios, Clinical Psychologists, Nurses and rehab assistants, and supported by administrators. You will be involved in assessment, therapy and disability management of people who have a range of neurological disorders. Patients are seen in their own homes or community settings, with a recently renovated office and outpatient base at Harpenden. All team members are fully agile working, enabling blended in-person and virtual sessions to be delivered as best meets client needs.

You will have the opportunity to work in group and individual treatment settings, supporting each individual with both rehab and disability management.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a supportive team, and have opportunities for development of your neuro -rehabilitation skills through regular supervision, in-service training and joint working opportunities. As a developing service, there are ample opportunities for service development, supervision and clinical leadership, as the service progresses into an exciting new phase.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of up to date CPD portfolio
  • Involvement in Appraisal Scheme
  • Attendance at specialist advanced courses or equivalent CPD activities within the specialist areas of Adult Rehabilitation, Neurology,


Desirable

  • Post graduate degree in relevant area
  • Member of a Special Interest Group relevant to this post
  • Member of BOAT/ RCOT


Experience

Essential

  • 2 Years' experience post registration as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist in neurology/stroke rehabilitation and long term disability management.
  • Post-registration experience of working in a community rehabilitation setting at a senior level.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working at a Junior level in a wide range of specialised clinical areas including, stroke and neurology.
  • Experience in supervising and appraising junior therapists and support workers.
  • Experience in supervising Occupational Therapy students
  • Experience of working in the NHS


Desirable

  • Experience working with voluntary organisations.
  • Experience in service development projects


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Skills in the assessment and treatment of adults with complex neurological conditions and multi-pathologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions including, stroke and neurology, multi-pathologies and falls
  • Knowledge of role of Allied Health Professionals and interdisciplinary team working
  • Ability to apply core Occupational Therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence-based practice relevant to Occupational Therapy practice in neurology
  • Knowledge of the National Stroke Strategy, Clinical Guidelines for Stroke and the National Service Framework for Long Term Conditions and NICE guidelines for stroke
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning
  • Advanced communication and report writing skills, in both verbal and written format
  • Basic IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel
  • Teaching of junior staff / students, peers in in - service training setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of Social Services and voluntary agencies
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the neuro rehabilitation process.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance and its application to clinical practice
  • An understanding of the importance of involving service users in their treatment and service development
  • Remains up to date with own professional practice and new research
