Tressell Ward has 28 beds and will admit patients with a variety of medical conditions with the main specialism being older people's medicine. It is a fast paced ward with caring for complex older people including those with delirium/dementia.

You will need to provide strong leadership, possess excellent communication skills and be able to develop and support staff with clinical and professional expertise. You will also be expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising standards of care and professionalism.

You must also have advanced clinical knowledge and skills, be willing to participate in research and audit projects and will also be expected to work with a certain amount of autonomy. In return you will be offered excellent managerial support and commitment to both your personal and professional development.

You must be a 1st level Registered Nurse with significant experience at Band 6 Sister /Charge Nurse level. Ideally you will be educated to a degree level or be working towards a degree. The ENB 998/mentorship level 3 or the equivalent is essential as is an awareness of the current professional, research and practice issues and an understanding of modern human resource management.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is accountable for their ward/department and will:

Be a professional role model leading and co-ordinating the ward / unit team, taking 24 hour responsibility for the management of the ward. This role involves managing a wide range of complex and competing priorities.
  • Promote and monitor safe and effective practice leading to high quality care.
  • Enhance patient experience by ensuring that patient needs are placed at the centre of care delivery.
  • provide effective leadership and management
  • Contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives by maintaining robust budgetary control and levels of activity.

Our aim is to maximise patient care, by using all the resources available, to reduce length of hospital stay and maintain patient flow. This is achieved by holding a daily multi disciplinary meeting, to discuss every patient. The Hospital Intervention Team, Social Services, both medical teams and the nursing staff, meet to establish the needs of the patient, the management plan and how a safe discharge can be achieved in the most timely manner

In return we will offer you excellent managerial support and commitment to your personal professional development. We expect all our staff to share the values that are important to the trust - being excellent, kind, responsible and respectful with inclusivity and integrity - and behave in a way that reflects these.
