Specialist Practitioner for Safeguarding Children

This vacancy is post is for a Specialist Practitioner SafeguardingChildren to work across the DCHS safeguarding Team from Oct2024.

This is a substantive post and will require the post holder to work 22.5 hours over 3 days. It is an exciting opportunity for a practitioner who holds a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification (Health Visitor/ School Nurse)

DCHS Safeguarding Team provides specialist expert advice, support, supervision and training toa wide range of DCHS colleagues and services.

DCHS Safeguarding team is passionate about safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults it promotes a Think Family safeguarding approach and helps support the organisation to meet its safeguarding responsibilities whist also promoting best practice to keep children safe.

We are looking for someone who has experience of working with vulnerable children and family's, and has a keen interest to develop their skills and knowledge within safeguarding .

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide safeguarding advice, support, supervision and training to staff across DCHS, they must have excellent communication skills and be able adapt to a varied work load.

The post holder will work as part of a team to support the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children to ensure that the trust meets its statutory requirements. This involves report writing, auditing, implementation of relevant policies attending and participating in multi-agency meetings and working in collaboration with Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. The post holder must be able to work as part of team, independently and with key partner agencies.

The post holder must ensure that any recommendations or guidance from local or national policy is taken forward in order to safeguard children and families including the Think Family agenda. This includes any learning from Rapid Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.

An understanding of legal frameworks underpinning safeguarding children is essential to ensure the organisation meets its safeguarding responsibilities and also support professional curiosity of other colleagues, teams and services and so as to safeguard children.

The Specialist Practitioner for Safeguarding Children will have responsibility for supporting the implementation of recommendations or guidance from local or national policy in order to safeguard children.

This includes any learning from Child Practice Reviews, Rapid Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.

It is essential that the post holder:

Provides leadership and support to health professionals in conjunction with other members of the Safeguarding Team, to promote the welfare of children and their families.

Promotes good professional practice in safeguarding children by providing advice, support, expertise and training for professionals in the organisation.

Provide safeguarding supervision to DCHS staff as necessary and requested.

Assists with Rapid Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.

Is able to liaise and communicate closely with other agencies involved in safeguarding children and families at risk.

The role will require skills to support policy development, report writing, audit, training development/ delivery, and have an understanding of safeguarding policies, procedures and legal frameworks.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oSpecialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse Qualification) or 1st level Registered Children's Nurse or Registered Mental Health Nurse (with children experience)
  • Degree Level Qualification
  • oEvidence of Post Basic Continuing Professional Development in Safeguarding Children
  • Educated to Masters Degree level or equivalent experience

  • Management or Leadership Qualification
  • Supervision qualification
  • Training Qualification


Experience
