We are pleased to announce a vacancy in search of a production technician at our St Thomas' site covering PN and CIVAS.

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate with a keen interest in aseptics and quality to support our PN service and CIVAS unit. You will work closely with nursing, pharmacy and other operational management teams to provide a patient focused service. You will also work closely with our clinical trials team, providing innovative treatments.

We are looking for a candidate who ideally has experience in aseptic services and pharmaceutical quality assurance, with a desire to progress in these areas. The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail, working knowledge of aseptic technique and understanding of GMP.

Joining our aseptic services team at Guy's & St Thomas' is an exciting proposition, with significant aseptic estates development planned over the next five years and growing demand for clinical trials, cancer treatments, CIVAS and advanced therapies. The Parenteral Nutrition Unit has recently undergone a refurbishment project, and we're embarking on a project to refurbish our CIVAS unit and awaiting delivery of brand new isolators.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Supporting the Principal Aseptic Technician in the running of the manufacturing unit and supervising the production operators in the clean room environment.
    • To ensure the safe, efficient and compliant manufacture of a range of pharmaceuticals under Section 10 / Regulation 4 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968 / Human Medicines Regulations 2012
    • Ensure excellent GMP practices are maintained at all times
    • To train junior staff members in aseptic production practices
    • Provide supervision and oversight to preparation activities in the cleanroom
    • Oversee compliance to critical in process checks
    • Ensure workflow is effectively managed
    • provide leadership and facilitate junior staff in completing daily operations

Guy's & St Thomas' Technical Services has one of the country's largest manufacturing facilities, split across a number of sites and involves around 140 staff working in licensed manufacturing and named patient dispensing areas. Services include aseptic preparation of CIVAS and chemotherapy, sterile and non-sterile manufacturing, clinical trials, quality control and quality assurance.

Person Specification



  • Demonstrated ability to dispense accurately to set standards
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake preparation and manufacture of a wide range of products. This should include in an isolator and LAFC.


  • Demonstrated ability to undertake preparation and manufacture of a wide range of non-sterile and sterile products.



  • Previous experience of manufacturing a variety of pharmaceutical dosage forms.
  • Portfolio demonstrating competence of previous and current pharmacy practice skills and knowledge and CPD.
  • Previous evaluated experience of delivering induction and competency based training e.g. Trainer the Trainers or equivalent / NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 - optional unit: 12 or equivalent.
  • Previous evaluated experience of supervising staff and workload on a day-to-day basis
  • Previous evaluated experience of participation in project work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part and lead a team.


  • Demonstrated experience of ability to appraise staff and set performance objectives.
  • Previous evaluated experience of recruitment and selection of staff

Qualification and knowledge


  • GSCE English, Maths and Science Grade A to C or equivalent


  • NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 - optional units: relevant to pharmacy practice area or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
