Are you a Midwife with an interest in Perinatal Mental Health.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Midwife to join the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Team.

The post is part time at 22.5hours per week over a fixed three days, the successful applicant with be joining a small team of: Psychiatry, Psychology, OT, Nursing, Nursery Nurses.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide an advisory link between adult mental health, midwifery and obstetric services to provide continuity of care for pregnant and postnatal women who are experiencing mental health issues.

Assist and advise women with, or at risk of, perinatal mental illness and their families to supplement the care provided by their midwives where necessary, for example working with women and their midwives to develop integrated care plans, and making referrals to additional specialist support where required.

Education and training will be a key aspect of the role to ensure relevant staff working across CTMUHB, are both competent and confident in the delivery and management of women with pre-existing and/or new mental health conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge


  • Registered Midwife
  • Professional/clinical knowledge acquired through midwifery training to degree/ diploma level and preceptorship plus further study, experience of area of expertise
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in maternal and infant mental health, developed through training and practice.


  • Good knowledge of evidence based risk assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines for perinatal mental health.
  • Understanding of the principles of mental Health Measure processes.



  • Suitable clinical experience post qualification with knowledge and understanding of Perinatal mental health issues.
  • Experience of working with pregnant and postnatal women who have experienced mental health issues.
  • Experience of delivering teaching / training to students / other professional groups / agencies both face to face and on virtual platforms


  • Proven practice and service development skills to promote change and influence practice.

Skills and Attributes


  • Robust decision making skills.
  • Evidence of recent professional / self-development.


  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards achieving this level.
  • Ability to facilitate / co-facilitate service user groups.

Other role responsibility


  • Understanding and awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and the vulnerable adult and child protection requirements.
  • Positive attitude towards those individuals who have perinatal mental health / mental health issues.
