To support the provision of healthcare to patients treated by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board by ensuring that there are effective and efficient clinical governance mechanisms in place, particularly in respect of clinical risk management and patient safety incidents. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, ensure all patient safety incident reports are investigated as appropriate in line with UHB processes, with a focus on lessons learned.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Surgical Clinical Board as a Quality , Safety and Experience Lead and support the Quality and Safety agenda for the clinical board.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic registrant who has a passion for patient safety, who enjoys a challenge and has excellent interpersonal skills. The role is broad and challenging you will require excellent organisational and management skills, as well as being able to work flexibly with a wide range of stakeholders, supporting individuals and teams across the Clinical Board and wider organisation as needed. Organisation and planning skills are a must for this role along with the ability to be able to work autonomously and be self-motivating. You will have strong core values and behaviours in line with those at Cardiff and Vale UHB.

As an experienced healthcare professional, the post-holder will lead on patient safety initiatives and provide advice, support and mentorship to staff in order to promote a positive safety culture and continuous quality improvement. The successful applicant will report to and support the Director of Nursing with quality themes.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Educated to MSc level in a relevant healthcare associated subject or evidence of equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Relevant professional qualification with current registration



  • Substantial health-care experience at a senior level
  • Previous experience of risk management / clinical governance
  • Multi professional team working



  • Ability to produce high quality documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written work, at all levels of staff and with the general public
  • Attention to detail and a capacity to meet deadlines
  • Computer literate
