We are seeking an adult community nurse with experience of haemoglobinopathy conditions and/or genetic counselling. Training will be provided to ensure the knowledge and skills to do the role. The service works closely with the specialist team at the Brent Sickle Cell Service, who provide community nursing services to the boroughs of Brent and Harrow, and clinical supervision for Haemoglobinopathy across NWL ICB.
You will manage the caseload of adults living with Haemoglobinopathy conditions within an allocated borough(s), helping to establish this expanded service, building strong connections in the new boroughs, and working together as a team in offering clinical support to people with haemoglobinopathy conditions at different stages of their lives, from antenatal screening, throughout childhood, through to adults living with a long term chronic condition. There will be opportunity to utilise expertise in genetic counselling for couples at risk of having a child with a haemoglobinopathy condition, or to develop these skills through training and practical clinic skills. A new pathway of preconception counselling will be developed as part of this investment.
Main duties of the job
o To provide specialist community nursing care and counselling for people with sickle cell, thalassaemia and other haemoglobinopathies, supporting them in life-long self-care.o To provide screening and counselling to identify haemoglobinopathy status for clients, including antenatal screening.o To liaise with specialist medical and nursing provision provided primarily by Imperial at St Mary's and Hammersmith Hospital sites.o To be a lead resource for patients, parents, primary care staff, as well as other agencies, providing highly specialised training and education to increase understanding and awareness of haemoglobinopathies.o

- RGN / RN Adult or Child (depending on role)
- Community Nursing Qualification
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
