We are excited to advertise a 12 month maternity cover post for a band 7 Clinical Specialist post in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Single Point of Access Team here in York. This is a growing service and a great opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team in supporting the mental health of our families in York.

Your role will be as a clinical lead within the service, providing leadership in clinical work, service development and change. Your role will include direct clinical contact and interactions with families strengthening partnerships across the city of York. You will be responsible for the supervision of clinicians within our team and providing support to our more complex service users.

The CAMHS Single Point of Access Team works across the locality of North Yorkshire, including Harrogate, Scarborough, Northallerton, York & Selby.

The post will be York based, however there will be an expectation of locality travel when needed.

  • Be a driven, enthusiastic and forward thinking leader.
  • Have extensive experience working in CAMHS services.
  • Have significant experience of working with clinicians to achieve service improvement.
  • Have a range of experience of leading projects or other clinically based initiatives which will have made a contribution to delivering innovative and high quality services to children and young people.
  • Hold a relevant Professional Registration (RMN, SW, OT )

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will have responsibility for providing clinical leadership to colleagues in the triage assessment of children and young people accessing the Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. Also support within the senior leadership team for service development and improvement.

You will offer clinical supervision to CAMHS Single Point of Access colleagues.

Support young people and families to access the right support at the right time.

The successful candidate will offer advice and consultation regarding the management and treatment of the young person open to our service.

Key priorities will include:
  • Providing Clinical Leadership.
  • Working with the Team Manager and Leadership Team to support service development.
  • To provide excellent care and treatment for our families.

Person Specification



  • Registration with relevant professional body. (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England)
  • For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Supervisor and /or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent and
  • and Trained in providing clinical supervision
  • For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/ trainees
  • All professions - Postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years
  • Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP e.g. dysphagia, posture, autism assessment, rebound, social prescribing, sensory processing, Approved Mental Health Professional, Practice Educator (level 3 Independent Prescriber) * Note any other advanced qualification/masters credits not listed here as an example, must be clearly evidenced and listed as advanced qualification or masters credits - within the individuals application form
  • And have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD



  • Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
  • Experience of application of relevant legislation (i.e., Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) in practice.



  • Substantial clinical experience of working in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others or transferable experience of similar settings and willing to gain knowledge within first 12 months.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others and safeguarding)
  • Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Involvement in quality improvement activities
