An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us and work within a friendly, supportive and innovative team as an Acute Medicine Triage Sister.

Our Acute Medical Directorate is evolving as part of our Urgent Emergency Care development. This is a role within an existing service that is expanding to meet the needs of our service users and shape Acute Medical access to healthcare.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Nurse Leader with a passion for Acute Care. This is an exciting time to join our rapidly transforming Acute Medical Directorate, working with excellent colleagues in Acute Medicine and other specialties this is a great opportunity to work in a progressive and expanding department

The post holder should be an experienced Senior Nurse with significant experience within an acute sector to join our Acute Medical Directorate. We are looking for a candidate with strong clinical background with an ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment for leading on the delivery of high quality patient care as well as possessing the skills to motivate and develop our team.

Main duties of the job

To demonstrate strong clinical leadership in stressful and challenging situations.

To promote a positive approach to new challenges and creative ways of working.

To act as advocate for their designated area and liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient care in the best interests of the patient.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To act as advocate within the designated area and lease with all members of the multidisciplinary team in both primary and secondary care to co-ordinate all aspect of care in the best interest of the patient and family.

To ensure and contribute to the delivery of high quality nursing care within the work area through triage of GP / WMAS and other health professional telephone referrals.

To provide effective and appropriate specialist advise to GPs and other health professionals regarding admission and alternatives to admission.

To refer patients to appropriate health care providers on behalf of any health care professional via an agreed verbal plan of care.

Person Specification



  • Evidence of management of emergency medicine/medical assessment at senior level. Evidence of managing a team in a clinical setting. Knowledge of acute medical emergencies and chronic disease management.
  • Previous experience within a Triage setting


  • Multi-disciplinary team liaison in primary and secondary care.



  • First Level registration. Evidence of professional development. Evidence of management experience/training.


  • Degree/ Masters (or working towards).
