We are seeking an individual to join our dynamic Worcestershire Integrated Sexual Health Service (WISH) and uphold our Trust Values Courageous, Ambitious, Responsive, Empowering, Supportive.

We are looking to recruit a competent, motivated, and enthusiastic Band 6 Sexual Health Nurse. This post will be full time at 37.5 hours a week with the occasional Saturday and one late evening. The post holder will join our existing team of professionals and be responsible for the provision and delivery of high-quality Sexual Health care to patients attending The Arrowside Unit, Redditch. The role will provide comprehensive nurse-led Integrated Sexual Health care. It will also involve working closely with the Trust Safeguarding Team and partner agencies.

You will continue to develop your clinical and leadership skills to support the management of change, working with the Locality Lead, and implement an innovative service that reflects local and national initiatives.Successful applicants should have excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of team.

It is essential that applicants can meet the travel requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job

  • Behave consistently with the values and beliefs of the organisation and promote these on a day-to-day basis.
  • Use initiative and take responsibility for quality of work and the service provided to patients.
  • Support the clinical lead to manage the operational requirements of the service.
  • Provide evidence-based holistic specialist sexual health care for patients attending sexual health clinics, which includes genitourinary medicine and contraception and reproductive health care, either face to face or by telephone.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat genital conditions, using diagnostic microscopy techniques and supply medicines under PGDs.
  • Assess contraception needs and eligibility and supply hormonal methods of contraception.
  • Work with vulnerable young people and adults, being able to analyse complex facts or situations and exercise professional judgment, following safeguarding procedures.
  • Be responsible for contributing to the development of nursing and professional practice including mentoring less senior staff and students.
  • May be required to work some unsocial hours, including some Saturdays.
  • May be required to work in other sexual health clinics or services across WiSH.

Person Specification



  • A working knowledge of clinical and psychosocial aspects of sexually transmitted infections
  • Evidence of continuing education in the speciality
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child exploitation and assessment of vulnerability


  • Evidence of competency in microscopy techniques

Skills & Abilities


  • Can give examples of challenging poor behaviour and how they role model good behaviour
  • Clear written communication
  • Can provide examples of working with sensitive issues associated with sexual behaviour


  • Ability to perform venepuncture.
  • Counselling skills
  • IT skills

Additional Criteria


  • Work flexible hours
  • Able to meet travel requirements of the post



  • RN (level 1)
  • NMC Registered
  • Degree in nursing or other relevant field or evidence of working towards
  • ENB 276 / APPS 3049 / R71 or equivalent
  • ENB 998 or equivalent or willing to work towards
  • Sub-dermal Implant competency (or within 3 months)
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.



  • Recent experience in sexual health nursing
  • Competent practitioner in Genitourinary Medicine or Contraception and Reproductive Health
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • Teaching and mentorship experience
  • Experience of conducting audit


  • Experience in counselling
  • Experience in Sexual Health Promotion and Education
