We are looking to recruit Band 7 cardiac physiologist who has a special interest in invasive cardiology to join our team at Harefield Hospital (Part of Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust).

The candidate should have enhanced clinical skills and knowledge in the field of cardiac catheterisation but also have experience in CRM and ideally be independent in implant and follow up of pacemakers, ICDs and CRT devices.

Harefield Hospital is a specialist heart and lung hospital as well as transplant center. Within the cardiac catheter labs we operate a very busy primary service with a door to balloon time of 27minutes- the candidate would be required to participate in the provision of a 24/7 on call rota. TAVI and other structural procedures are performed routinely along with all diagnostic and international cardiac investigations.

This role attracts RRP of �5,275 in addition to the basic salary (not pensionable), which is subject to review on the 31 March 2024


Main duties of the job

To be a clinical role model who assists in the provision and management of running an efficient and effective cardiac physiology service predominantly in the cardiac catheter labs at Harefield Hospital.

Provides technical support for a full range of routine and complex invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiac investigations within the cardiac catheter laboratory - this includes diagnostic angiography, right heart studies with blood analysis and haemodynamic calculations, cardiac biopsies, complex PCI and CTO procedures using laser, shockwave and rotablation, IVUS, OCT and pressure wire studies as well as structural heart procedures including TAVI and mitral clip procedures, PFO closures. Has expert knowledge of all equipment required for these procedures and is able to set up, maintain and perform first line troubleshooting of this equipment.

Independently provides technical support in device implants which includespacemakers, complex devices(ICDs,SICDs CRTs) and lLRs. Able to independently perform pacemaker, ILR and complex device follow ups face to face in pacing clinics and through remote monitoring.

To play a major role in the training, continuing professional development and overall performance of student and junior physiologists in the cardiac catheter lab.

We have 3 cardiac catheter labs and 1 EP lab at Harefield Hospital all of which are in constant daily use. The primary service is busy and is active 24/7. We perform a broad range of angio procedures from diagnostic angiography through to complex TAVI and mitral clips. You will get to work with a progressive consultant body in a supportive and constructive environment, whilst also working with group of keen cardiac physiologists.

Person Specification



  • oBSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or have the AHCS Certificate of PTP Equivalence
  • oRegistration with RCCP, AHCS or HCPC


  • oDemonstrable experience within the cardiac catheter laboratory (having already taken or currently preparing to sit a postgraduate specialist qualification)
  • oBHRS/IBHRE/EHRA Accreditation in CRM
  • oRegistered as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC



  • oAbility to communicate well with patients and colleagues
  • oExperience of a wider range of invasive and non-invasive techniques involved in the assessment and therapy provision for patients with cardiac disease


  • oIndependent practitioner within the cardiac catheter lab Devices, competent in the follow up of complex implantable cardiac devices
  • Competent in the follow up of complex implantable cardiac devices



  • o2+ years as a Band 6 Cardiac Physiologist or current Band 7


  • oShows a keen interest in all procedures performed in the cardiac catheter lab
  • oExperience of providing a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations
