Directorate Manager - Imaging

Full Time 37.5 Hours, Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Women's, Children's & Clinical Support Services (WC& CSS) Management Team where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our diagnostic service within the Imaging Directorate.

We are looking for an inspirational and innovative leader who is keen to explore new ideas and ways of working with various teams and who will foster an environment of continuous improvement, inclusion and staff engagement.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and collaborative individual, confident at communicating across all staffing types and in partnership with other teams and organisation.

This role is an ideal opportunity for those looking to further develop their operational management skills fully supported by the Head of Imaging.

The UHNM Imaging service is one of the largest in the country delivering a wide range of complex services to our patients across the Trust and beyond supporting both tertiary and community services.

The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude, extensive problem solving skills and the ability to effectively prioritise competing workload/demands.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the Clinical Director and Head of Imaging as a key member of the senior leadership triumvirate accountable for organising Directorate resources to ensure delivery of safe, high quality and effective patient care.

The role will provide support and leadership for the Imaging team, with particular emphasis on project management, business case preparation, procurement & financial management along with data oversight.

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Imaging and CD in ensuring that all local and national performance standards and objectives are met and maintained the role portfolio includes the Imaging administrative and clerical team.

An important element will be the contribution to the strategic development and continuing improvement of clinical services, in conjunction with the service leadership and wider team, driving efficiencies and innovation throughout the directorate.

The post holder will represent the service externally across a range of stakeholders, including but not limited to networks, commissioners, charities and regulators.

  • Experience of managing or overseeing waiting lists and demonstrating performance improvements
  • Experience of leading a service



  • Degree level education or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent managerial experience at senior manager level

Skills and Experience


  • Experience of leading and implementing a service change and demonstrating this with measurable metrics


  • Ability to critically analyse complex information and evaluate a range of options to identify service improvements



  • Awareness of the NHS agenda at a national and local level
