We are looking for an OT wants to develop their career as part of the Coventry Mental Health Community Team.

As a team we work with clients in the community who are diagnosed with a mental health condition and need support. You will contribute to a multi-disciplinary clinical team, taking responsibility for a case load as both an OT Key Worker 60% and Occupational Therapist 40%.

We are looking for someone with an interest in working with people with complex and significant mental health problems is vital and we see this as an ideal opportunity to develop more specialist skills. Its important you have strong communication skills and you can work on your own initiative as well as collaboratively with colleagues. A willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills and develop your practice is vital.

As a Senior OT you will offer comprehensive assessment and treatment using occupation as therapy. Our aim is to assist clients to enhance their life skills, independence, improved health and wellbeing, purpose, and balance. Taking a focus on OT referrals, provision of groups and supporting OT colleagues with their practice and career development.

Main duties of the job

Working within an established team, you'll be managing a caseload of clients who have complex mental health problems both with a psychotic illness and non-psychosis presentations and delivering a range of interventions and treatment across the whole patient group. As a successful candidate you will be given time and opportunity to build your skills and confidence to eventually allow you to undertake the management of your caseload. Those patients with a psychotic presentation may be managed through shared care within the team. This allows the sharing of responsibility, skills and knowledge which offers the opportunity for staff to develop their role whilst being supported by colleagues.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, using evidence-based approaches and time limited interventions. You'll be communicating with a wide variety of clients professionals partners and agencies.

You will also help in the delivery and development of the OT service within the team, facilitating OT recovery focused group interventions, 1-1 assessments and interventions, providing OT reports to support funding and undertaking the supervision of junior staff.

  • Relevant Professional Qualification in OT
  • Current unrestricted registration with HCPC


Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to demonstrate and apply understanding safety issues
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply problem solving skills to a variety of situations
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply understanding of policies and procedures


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in a mental health setting.
  • Significant experience of undertaking assessment, formulation, risk assessment and positive risk taking
