A rare and exiting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse to join our team on Coronary Care/ Cardiology ward at Gloucester Royal Hospital.

Main duties of the job

- To act as a resource for junior staff, peers and students assisting the lead and disseminating specialist clinical skills and knowledge.

- Ability to ensure personal and professional development is progressed through individual performance development review and PREP guidelines.

- Escalation of deterioration of patient condition to the appropriate staff member.

- Take personal responsibility as a team leader of patients.

- Ensure referrals are made to professional agencies/specialities as required

- You will delegate and supervise appropriate work to other team members.

- Discharge planning in conjunction with multi-disciplinary teams

- Ensure individual needs of patients are met as required and confidentiality & dignity is upheld at all times.

- Communicate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team, Wards and departments as required.

- Report episodes of sickness for self or those that are reported to you to the ward manager.

Currently between Cheltenham and Gloucester cardiac services we off coronary angiography, PCI, pacing/ICD's, CRT, Cardiac CT and TOE's for patients during their acute phase of their conditions. By the end of this year it will become single sited and opportunities for development.A total of 25 beds at our Gloucester site.

- Coronary Care Unit - contains an eight-bedded unit.

- Cardiology ward - houses a further 17 inpatient beds (to including 5 ensuite side rooms) for patients with a variety of cardiac conditions.

Applicants must have substantial nursing experience in acute care and continuing professional development relevant to cardiac as well as possessing a teaching and assessing qualification. The CCU in Gloucester works closely with the Hartpury Suite Cardiac Catheter Lab in Cheltenham. There will be plenty of opportunity to laisse and we encourage team members opportunities to spend time with all members of multidisciplinary team and liaise between both sites.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

- Will be designated to take charge of both areas the department.

- Will be responsible for timely escalation of all issues to their Line Manager.

- Will act as a support for the band 7s, Matron and other Clinical Lead Nurses.

- Will actively participate in quality improvement projects

- Will work within & manage the clinical care team.

- Manage the flow of patients through the ward by timely signposting and referral of patients to appropriate health care providers.

- To identify and actively participate in a link role.

- Will take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust local policies and procedures are known and adhered to and will ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

- Will be responsible for the assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of patient care.

- Will take responsibility for the supervision and guidance for other members of staff in the department including Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants & Students on a daily basis.

- Will actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of supervisors assessors for learners.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with appropriate teaching/ assessing qualification and with substantial years post registration experience, including substantial years in the speciality.
