Main duties of the job

Role Summary:

The post holder will be responsible for providing universal, enhanced, and intensive Health Visiting services to children and families from all cultural diversities on their case load. Health Visitors work as a team across locally defined areas and support the service across HMR, to provide a safe service for all preschool children and their families.

The post holder will be based within a team of Health Visitors and skill-mix staff and will contribute to the development of new projects and policies within the health visiting service and will be involved in the research, implementation and evaluation of evidence based practice.

Job responsibilities

The Health Visitor will be responsible and accountable for the operational and strategic management of a caseload and the delivery of high-quality programmes of care to infants children and their families using a multidisciplinary approach.

The Health Visitor will participate in the identification and safeguarding of vulnerable children and their families in partnership with other agencies. They will participate in the continued development of community service and will manage the development, implementation and compliance of policies, procedures, audit and benchmarks, including appraisal, personal development plans and clinical supervision.

The post holder will be required to work as part of a team predominately based in one location but may be required to work at other locations across Heywood, Middleton and Heywood.

As a member of the Integrated Childrens services in Rochdale, the post holder is expected to contribute to the expectations of the Boroughs Children and Young Peoples Partnership Strategy and the Early Help Strategy.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receivea full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Person Specification

Registration and qualifications


  • Registered Specialist Community Health Public Nurse (SCPHN) (1) Registered Nurse or Midwife on Part 1 of the NMC register (1) Evidence of post-registration development relevant to the post (1)
  • Recent Professional/clinical knowledge acquired through CPD


  • Teaching and assessing experience
  • V100/150 Prescriber



  • Knowledge of recent legislation impacting on Community Health Care and Health Visiting practice.
  • Displays a good clinical knowledge which is based on research evidence.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Early help assessment



  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work within multi-agency/professional setting.
  • Demonstrates the development of innovative working and new development
  • Able to analyse and make the decisions in relation to patient risk and care in complex cases.
