A fantastic secondment opportunity within our learning disability liaison team.

Are you a Registered Nurse who is:
  • Experienced in working with The Mental Capacity Act
  • Passionate about improving health outcomes for those with a learning disability?
  • Interested in driving change and improvements that will enhance clinical pathways ?
  • An excellent communicator ?

Then this may be the perfect job for you!

You'll be part of the Acute Learning Disability Liaison Team, based across our two acute hospital sites.

You'll work to enhance the experience of people with learning disabilities under the care of Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital. This will be specifically in regard to devolved MCA considerations for people with learning disability, requiring access to diagnostic services. The focus will initially be on the two week wait pathway, which will evolve and expand in line with need and availability.

Main duties of the job

Consideration of the MCA can prove problematic with the above cohort. Some individuals may struggle to access the hospital environment prior to their intervention and many decision makers are unable to undertake outreach work in the community. The role will involve work both in the hospital environment with decision - makers e.g Clinicians, medical specialists or Consultants, and in the community with patients, their families and carers.

Through this collaborative approach and working alongside decision makers, we aim to improve confidence and skills within the clinical areas, strengthening this pathway and therefore achieving a reduction in health inequalities.
