The post holder will be responsible for accepting referrals for patients with a variety of liver conditions from other consultants, GP's, Sexual Health, and other agencies including We are with you and Health for Homeless. They will be responsible for the autonomous management of patients to prevent progression of liver disease to liver failure or hepatocellular carcinoma.

The post holder will liaise and communicate with a number of associated agencies in both primary and secondary care as well as tertiary transplant assessment centers and the multidisciplinary team to ensure this patient group have access to the most appropriate treatments.

Main duties of the job

Under the clinical direction of the Hepatology Nurse Consultant the post holder will manage and lead development of nursing services within Hepatology and act as an expert resource.

The post holder will continue to develop and deliver a service that is current and relevant with an ever changing demand placed on it both locally and nationally in a challenging economic environment whilst:

Maintaining optimal specialist knowledge and knowledge of current research.

Partaking in audits to ensure optimal delivery of care.

Responding promptly to emerging clinical needs, complaints and incidents.

Developing and participating in appropriate action plans which include complexities for service delivery due to geographical intricacies, complex, sometimes chaotic patient group and working across multiple specialty boundaries.

  • Current NMC Registration
  • BSc Hons Degree
  • Qualified and NMC Registered Non-Medical Prescriber


Desirable

  • Masters Qualification or working towards Masters Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Post Registration within a relevant clinical setting
  • Experience of managing own workload
  • Experience within the field of Hepatology


Desirable

  • Previous experience of audit


Practical Skills

Essential

  • Venepuncture Skills


Desirable

  • Understanding of professional and current issues affecting people with hepatitis C
  • Management Experience including appraisal skills
