We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated, Workforce Business Partner at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

Due to the promotion of one of our current Workforce Business partners an opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term (secondment for current NHS employees) Workforce Business partner post. post holder will support the wider Trust by advising on the application of terms and conditions of service, best practice, policies /procedures and new legislation including equality and diversity legislation as well as project work where the need arises.

The skills we are looking for are attention to detail, tact, patience, the ability to liaise with colleagues throughout the Hospital and beyond, excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional and respectful manner.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under time restraints and pressure at times. We will provide the necessary support to ensure your development within your role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high quality specialised advice and a strategic, operational and business-focused comprehensive HR service to defined divisions whilst also supporting the wider Trust.

Person Specification



  • Degree level qualification or knowledge and expertise gained through in-depth i.e. CIPD Advanced Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience to a degree level equivalent.
  • Chartered Membership of CIPD or evidence of continued professional development through a suitable equivalent



  • Employment law and its application in the workplace.
  • The NHS People Plan and its application in the workplace
  • Workforce planning
  • Working in an operational workforce generalist role and/or business partner role in an NHS setting.
  • Employee Relations case management including supporting managers with complex absence management, disciplinary, grievance and dignity cases and organisational change including those resulting in redeployment and redundancy.
  • Project management from initiation to completion.
  • Developing workforce policies and procedures
  • Report writing for a senior/specialist audience
  • Customer service/consultancy skills
  • Written communication skills including the ability to write material and reports to a high standard for a wide and diverse audience.
  • Verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels sometimes within complex, confrontational or highly emotive situations.
  • Analytical skills - ability to analyse multi-source data, draw conclusions from the findings and translate this into a coherent report and action planning.
  • Presentation skills
  • Problem solving skills and an aptitude for offering creative and innovative workforce solutions
  • Have a good understanding of active allyship and commitment to behaving as an active ally and generally being a champion for equality & valuing diversity principles
