This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established and resourced Health and Fitness team. The team work with patients with a primary diagnosis of server mental illness or personality disorder based within the high security, forensic hospital environment.

The hospital has moved to a new bespoke hospital is the most modern high security forensic hospital in the country. The hospital focuses on innovative care to a challenging and interesting patient group. We have a strong commitment to multi-professional working within the clinical teams, focussing on reducing risk and offending behaviours.

We are looking for a resourceful, motivated person who can demonstrate skill in engaging patients in physical activity, sports and working with patients who are unmotivated to engage.

There are opportunities to progress in the service and are opportunity to see how other clinical role work on the wards an in vocational areas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder role is to activity motivate and engage patients and helps them to engage in physical activities and sports, with the support and guidance of senior staff. To build rapport with patients who struggle to engage in activities and be open to learning new skills.

To support planned Health and Fitness patient programmes. Part of the role is to take an active part in safety procedures, such as daily searches of patients and the environment, preparation work for sessions, undertaking patient observations, escorting patients and helping with the management of patient incompatibilities.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Good general education with 3 or more CSE, GCSE
  • To have a degree in a relevant Sports management
  • OR Sports BTEC, in Coaching NVQ /SVQ level 4/5
  • Management/Leadership training course Level 3
  • To have a relevant nationally recognised adult education teaching qualification or sporting and leisure qualification.
  • To have a nationally recognisable sporting level 4/5

  • Coaching skills

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with patients in a health setting
  • Experience in evaluating patients' skill level and needs.
  • Experience as a band 3/4 in a relevant patient care NHS post in which the management of staff was necessary.
  • Demonstrates the ability to role model, empower and motivate staff.


Desirable

  • Experience of working with patients with forensic mental illness and personality disorder.
