An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident and enthusiastic Dietitian with experience or interest in paediatrics, to become an integral member of the North East London Foundation Trust's (NELFT) Children's Feeding and Dietetic Service (CFADS) based in Wickford, Essex.

The service provides an established community dietetic service to theBasildon, Bentwood, Wickford and Thurrock regions of Essex and is now expanding to provide Paediatric Home Enteral feeding support to Mid Essex and the Dietetic Infant Allergy pathway across the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System.

The service is keen to support and develop the right candidate into the role, which may include newly qualified dietitians looking to start their career in paediatrics within development role.

The post holder will work within the established community dietetic team providing paediatric dietetic advice, education and support to patients, carers and other health professionals within NELFT's communities, with a range of needs including:Enteral feeding, faltering growth, nutrition support, coeliac disease, fussy eaters / limited diets, nutritional deficiencies, weight management and constipation but with a focus on supporting babies with cows milk allergy.

The cows milk allergy pathway is delivered virtually with targeted face to face support where clinically indicated. This and NELFTs policy on agile working supports opportunities for remote working.

Main duties of the job

The Children's Feeding and Dietetic Service includes the community dietetic team and the Basildon and Thurrock MDT Feeding Team. The teams work together ensure the patients and families experience is seamless. The development of the new HEF and Milk Allergy pathway requires the number of dietetic staff to increase from 4 to 9 dietitians. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding service with opportunities to explore development and innovation.The role requires dietetic assessment and management in children aged 0-18 (19 in SEN), across a range of settings including clinics, home visits, education settings and virtually, autonomously and in partnership with other clinicians when indicated and supported by the 8a Pathway Lead, Band 7 Team leader, Dietetic Assistant and other HCP team members. The NELFT working model includes opportunities to work remotely but it is essential to be able to support face to face assessments when needed.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

If based on site this post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of �1,192 to a maximum of �2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time) for staff working in face to face roles.

Staff delivering a remote only role and not seeing patients on a regular and frequent basis will not receive the High Cost Area Supplement.

To provide high quality, evidence baseddietetic assessment and management to children.To be able to cope with, be sensitive and be non-judgemental with patients and their families who have a variety of medical conditions.To be able to provide advice in a sensitive manner within the childs environment.To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients/clients in your care.Work within NELFT Trust clinical guidelines and professional guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards including safeguarding.

To be responsible for maintaining own accurate and comprehensive patient/client treatment records, in line with professional standards of practice and within the parameters laid down in the NELFT Trusts Note Keeping Policy.


Person Specification



  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
  • Membership of the British Dietetics Association and specialist group
  • Registered as a Dietitian with the Health Professions Council
  • Evidence of a range of CPD activities


  • Evidence of further postgraduate study e.g. paediatric course e.g. tier 1 / 2



  • Minimum 2 years experience in Dietetics
  • Evidence of the dietetic management of a wide range of complex clinical conditions
  • Experience of communicating with parents, guardians and carers, translating complex issues into manageable information


  • UK NHS experience (minimum 1 year)
  • Experience of working in a community setting, with paediatric experience
  • Experience of developing protocols and clinical guidelines.



  • Basic awareness of IT and IT skills
  • Use of health care IT systems


  • Experince of using system one
  • Experience of delivering a remote service
