Are you a registered midwife seeking a new exciting challenge?

Conwy Flying Start are looking to recruit a full time community midwife within the Llandudno Flying Start area, initially on a Fixed Term contract with the possibility of extension to funding.

The Flying Start Midwife will provide an enhanced midwifery service to those identified, via referral, who require a high level of clinical and social support.

The flying start Midwife will provide quality clinical and social care to those on their caseload promoting safe, effective care and health promotion to the most vulnerable across the Conwy Flying Start Catchments areas. The midwife will work closely with the local community midwifery teams and the Flying Start Health Visitors to provide a tailored care package to identified families.

Main duties of the job

The midwife will be required to provide midwifery care to meet the relevant antenatal and postnatal needs of women and their families who reside within the Flying start communities, and in so doing contribute to reducing the risk of long-term social exclusion and poverty and contribute to the wellbeing of the family by promoting positive parenting.

The midwife will have responsibility for developing locally sensitive midwifery services, with accountability for working within the relevant Flying Start aims and objectives. The objectives for this post will include a strategy for opportunistic contacts for advice and support for parents and their families, signposting for relevant local services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification



  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of Ongoing Professional Development


  • Completion of Mentorship course



  • Experience in Midwifery
  • Physical Skills including venepuncture, sensory skills for abdominal palpation and vaginal examination


  • Experience of working within community midwifery
  • Good Knowledge and experience of clinical risk and clinical governance
  • Experience of facilitating group work
