This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic and expanding WeLCoME Service, an MDT working with people with Long Covid and ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in City and Hackney. In this supportive setting you would gain the opportunity to build on both clinical and service development skills as well as those needed for multidisciplinary working.

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and therapy for people with Long Covid and ME/CFS. This will involve helping patients to develop skills and strategies so that they can continue to do the things that are important to them in life even in the presence of the ongoing symptoms.

The post holder will offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to colleagues from other disciplines working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team. A key part of the role will be to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research and to contribute to teaching and training within the team and wider trust and locality.

The WeLCoME Service is therapy-led, and is a newly established collaboration between City & Hackney COVID Rehabilitation Service and the ME/CFS Service. This sits within the well-established therapy-led community outpatient Locomotor Service which houses integrated teams working within Persistent Pain and Physiotherapy.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments of patients referred to the WeLCoME Service
  • Formulate and implement plans for thepsychological treatment and/or management of problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of those problems derived from a broad theoretical knowledge of psychology, employing evidence-based practice including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness approaches or Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, families and groups within the WeLCoME Service, including psycho-education sessions, webinars and joint assessments within the MDT
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with the MDT in WeLCoME and to work closely with other psychologist therapists working across Locomotor services.
  • To liaise with relevant others in the City and Hackney Psychological Therapies Alliance and members of other disciplines and agencies responsible for a client's care
  • Tocontribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the WeLCoME Service, operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
  • To provide supervision to psychology assistants or trainees as appropriate

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology including Models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, ACT and/or CBT and one other psychological therapy. Three or more supervised clinical placements (including health psychology and mental health specialisms) and research skills. OR/ Postgraduate diploma in cognitive-behaviour therapy from a BABCP accredited course or Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling, Health, Psychology, or equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Accredited with the BABCP if CBT Therapist or HCPC if Psychologist


Desirable

  • Further training in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness or Compassion Focused Therapy.
  • Completion of IAPT Long Term Conditions Top Up


Skills / Abilities

Essential

  • Highly-developed communication skills at overcoming barriers to understanding and acceptance.
  • Ability to provide a culturally-competent and non-stigmatizing service including an awareness of the potential impact of discrimination and disadvantage on mental health.
  • Skills in providing advice and consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.


Desirable

  • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care.


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a specialist fatigue, Long Covid or Pain management service or other health setting
  • Experience of delivering group work


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Knowledge and clinical experience of long-term health conditions.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the specialism and mental health generally


Desirable

  • Knowledge of CBT, Mindfulness, ACT, CFT
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology
